The Bawdy Black Pearls cd is born from the awareness that these blues women contributed significantly, thanks to their songs, to the birth of a feminist consciousness in African American working class women of the early 1900s.

Sex and sexuality, drugs, betrayals, prostitution, homosexuality and social problems, patriarchy and freedom of self-determination are the topics covered and all through a repertoire chosen in a period of time ranging from the 1920s to the 1940s.
